Pride Creates Blind Spots

Jesus used very strong words to point out the correct way in which one can help someone to see clearly and effectively correct a conduct that is impeding their progress.

He stated in Matthew 7:1-3 “Do not judge others, and you will not be judged. For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged. “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own? How can you think of saying to your friend, ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye? Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.”

We criticize others while absolving ourselves. The faults we pass judgment on in others are the very same flaws we can’t bear to admit in ourselves. We like to exalt ourselves by exposing other people’s flaws. All ungodliness is cause for concern, whether it be in ourselves or in others. It must be dealt with!

Let us overcome the blind spots in our pride that keeps us from being compassionate and helpful by first correcting our weaknesses in conduct and character through the enabling power of the Holy Spirit, the Word of God and by praying for each other.
